Drawn to the Nonprofit Sector
After Courtney finished her degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, she made a list of dream organizations where she wanted to work – and they were all nonprofits! This started her on a chapter that has lasted over 15 years, with 10 years working directly at nonprofits and 5 years at organizations that support nonprofits with specialized technology services. Her proudest career accomplishment was during her time at the Burke Museum. The project involved selecting and implementing an enterprise system of apps built on the Salesforce platform to consolidate the many revenue streams of the Burke Museum and provide a holistic view of its constituents. Streamlining its fundraising, membership sales, ticketing, tours, camps, and program registrations gave the organization a deeper understanding of its customers, increased its efficiency, and helped drive data-driven strategy and decision-making. As the director of multiple visitor-facing programs, this system was especially invaluable to her as the museum prepared to move and re-open in a brand-new building and throughout the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The system and its data gave Courtney the tools she needed to create highly accurate predictive models that guided the museum through these major changes.
A Mind for Project Management
By happenstance, Courtney fell into roles at her nonprofit organizations that involved complex project management, which is a career path that wasn’t on her radar whatsoever during her college years. It is one that suits her very well, with her innate ability to think strategically and build strong plans. Courtney gains energy from big, hopeful ideas and is passionate about making a meaningful impact in her work. By helping nonprofit employees work more efficiently, she empowers them to dedicate more time to their true mission—changing the world for the better.
Courtney says, “I'm obsessed with getting nonprofits the data they need in and out of the right systems, so they have all the information they need available to make thoughtful, data-driven decisions and strategies.”
Things That Make Courtney Smile
When Courtney isn’t building beautifully detailed and accurate multi-phase project plans for nonprofit clients, she admits to organizing her life in spreadsheets. (Project manager at heart!) Her two young sons certainly keep her busy, yet she continues to enjoy connecting with the local nonprofit arts and culture scene in the Seattle area. She’s excited for what’s coming for the team at The Fresh Perspective Group and appreciates what she calls “fresh peanut butter jar energy”. Courtney is a reading enthusiast, loves travelling, and savors time for herself to recharge her extrovert batteries. We are so lucky to have Courtney leading the charge on client experience at The Fresh Perspective Group!
